How much medicine does a Wegovy 2.4 mg pen contain?

Yazen's experience is that many patients are unsure of how much a 2.4 mg Wegovy pen contains because it says "2.4 mg" on the pen. The reason it says 2.4 mg is that if you take a full dose, you will get 2.4 mg, which is intended to be taken once a week for four weeks. This dose can thus be repeated four times, so the pen contains a total of 9.6 mg of medicine.

How long does a Wegovy 2.4 mg pen last?

How long a pen lasts depends on the weekly dose you take. On average, a patient at Yazen takes 1 mg per week to reach their target weight and between 0.25 mg and 0.5 mg per week to maintain stable weight. A pen can therefore last for several months.

How many needles are included in the package?

When you order your medicine via Nationale Apotheek, an extra package with 10 needles is included in addition to the four needles that always come with it. So, you will have 14 needles to use. You can use the same needle several times, and there is no risk of infection because the needle is so short and only sticks into the subcutaneous tissue. If you want more needles, ask your doctor. If you wish to reuse the needle, leave it attached to the pen and put on the inner needle cap and put the large gray cover back on.

How do I store the pen?

According to the manufacturer, an opened pen lasts for a maximum of 6 weeks, but if you store it in the refrigerator, there is extensive international experience that the medicine does not lose its effectiveness even after several months of use, and this is also confirmed by Yazen's own data. However, you choose whether to use it for longer than 6 weeks.

It is not a problem to have it at room temperature for short periods, such as during a flight, but it should not be exposed to temperatures above 30 degrees, and it should never be frozen. The main thing to avoid is exposing it to direct sunlight.
